Brits blast disgusting Spanish city beach where locals are anti-British

A stunning beach in one of Spain’s most popular tourist destinations has been blasted by tourists as “full of cigarette butts” and “anti-British”

One reviewer branded the long city of beach of Playa del Postiguet as the “beach from hell”.

The near-kilometre-long beach is located next to Alicante’s port and near the castle of Santa Barbara.

While it’s proximity to the nightlife of the city and fine golden sand have made the beach wildly popular, even the locals appear to be turning on it.

One reviewer on TripAdvisor who said they lived just 500 yards away from the 900-metre stretch of sand, but “avoids it like the plague” regardless.

The reviewer said the beach was “littered with pieces of glass and cigarette butts, which are merely mixed back in the sand by a tractor in the early hours of the morning, rather than being filtered out as one would expect.”

He said locals frequently find themselves cutting their feet when walking along the beach.

He added that the beach becomes a “public toilet” during summer, and is riddled with “an army of pickpockets”.

The sea does have some – if disgusting – benefits, he claimed, writing: “After 11am, you won’t need to apply any sort of sunscreen. A simple dip in the water is sufficient to cover yourself in oil from head to toe.

“The same goes for adhesive plasters (bandages), you don’t need to buy any as there are plenty of all sizes floating around.”

Other reviewers similarly highlighted the quantity of cigarette butts plaguing the beach while the “sea is full of plastic”.

One added: “The arrogant young men selling sun beds are horrible. We were told they were 20 euros, went to three different cash points to get cash they don’t take cards and then when we got back we’re laughed at and told the price was 27.

“Why? What is the point of humiliating and causing stress to tourists, the people who pay your wages?”

They questioned if this was the “Brexit effect of anti-British sentiment”.

Others described local staff as “incredibly rude”.

However, other tourists were far more satisfied with the area, describing the sand as “soft” and the beach having a “great atmosphere”.

They pointed to dozens of local bars and musicians and couples dancing creating a wonderful holiday atmosphere.
