A top Yakuza boss made unfortunate history when he became the first Japanese crime lord to be given the death sentence – but it is not the first time he has suffered embarrassment
Satoru Nomura, now 77, was left so infuriated after a penis enlargement went wrong that he put a hit out on the plastic surgeon's nurse. The Kudo-kai boss, whose group is known as the most violent in Japan, was looking to have a penis enlargement and hair removal procedure but was allegedly unhappy with the results.
At his trial in 2017, it was claimed Nomura told assassins to carry out "organised retaliation" because he "unjustifiably resented the failed surgery". The nurse was targeted after applying aftercare following his surgery.

Asia Times reported that she angered him when she dismissed his complaints about pain. She reportedly told him: “This can’t possibly hurt as much as getting one of those Yakuza tattoos."
It also appears the hit was successful as in January 2013, the nurse was found stabbed in the head on a street in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City. The incident was revealed as part of numerous crimes against the Yakuza boss before he was sentenced in 2021.
He denied all the accusations that he was the masterminded beyond the gruesome crimes. Fukuoka District Court confirmed it had sentenced Nomura to death but he is currently appealing the decision.

According to the Nishinippon Shimbun newspaper, Nomura chillingly told the judge: "I asked for a fair decision… You will regret this for the rest of your life.” The Kudo-kai is reportedly still active and is the largest yakuza mafia in the Kitakyushu area.
It became notorious for its methods of violence, which saw the use of hand grenades. Should his appeal fail, Nomura will face death by hanging.
