Wilko is set to close 167 locations by next week with the chain preparing to shutter every storefront in the country.
An attempted rescue of the store from Doug Putman, owner of HMV, was on the table but fell through and as of today, September 12, Wilko stores will begin to permanently close.
A total of 24 stores are set to close today, with batch closures to follow over the next two weeks.
Nearly 400 stores in total will be closed by the retail chain, with the first wave of closures to be carried out in September seeing 176 of the outlets closed for good.
Administrators are now expected to detail the ins and outs of specific closure protocol and redundancies, leaving 12,500 without jobs.
The first batch of closures, which sees the likes of Liverpool and Stafford bid farewell to the retail titan, is set to be carried out today.
