The beautiful European island where it’s over 20C in December

Although temperatures are due to regularly fall into single figures or below zero for millions living in the UK this month, not everyone will feel the chill.

Some will be able to fly away for some winter sun and rather than freezing over Christmas will be trying to get a tan.

Despite the low temperatures, there are plenty of places to get some winter sun this Christmas, including hundreds of areas north of the equator.

One of those popular destinations is Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands.

According to Conde Nast Traveller, the island, which sits off Africa’s west coast, remains warm enough for people to swim in the ocean in December.

They recommended avoiding “the package hordes” and heading to Papagayo Beach on the southern tip of the island.

While Conde Nast has given Lanzarote glowing reviews, they aren’t the only ones and thousands of people have taken to Tripadvisor to praise the island.

There is a wide range of things for people to see and do including visiting the Marina Rubicon, the Timanfaya National Park, the Jardin de Cactus, and the Cueva de los Verdes.

On the Timanfaya National Park, one person wrote: We have visited here on numerous occasions and it never fails to be an amazing experience.

“The whole experience is very worthwhile but the visitor centre is such a history and geological lesson that you need to visit more than once.

“Definitely recommend a visit here, don’t rush, take your time and immerse yourself in the amazing history of the place.”

Another person suggested: “The best way to see this place is with a tour company, rather than in a car. You jump the queue. You will get to see and feel up close the small stones that are really warm in the hands.

“The straw being lit and the water geysers all from the heat of the volcano. The panoramic views are fantastic.”

On the Marina Rubicon, one person said: “It’s so nice to be able to step out of your hotel, and be instantly strolling past some absolutely amazing yachts!

“It’s so peaceful as well!”
