A seaside town is desperate for boy racers to stop recklessly using their roads at night.
Idyllic Eastbourne in Sussex is known as a quaint retirement hub for Brits hoping for a quiet life on the south coast, but ruining the peace for many is the screeching tyres of speedsters – and locals are sick of it.
The picturesque area is a hotspot for motoring enthusiasts who take both current and future classics along the back roads. However, a few spoil it for the many and there has been a sustained period of disruption from careless driving, the Express reports.

Dangerous drivers have engaged in antisocial behaviour such as speeding, aggressive driving, racing, and excess noise. To tackle the interferences, Eastbourne Borough Council and Sussex Police decided to make changes by implementing a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO).
Those caught breaking the PSPO can be given a fixed penalty notice of £100 or a fine of up to £1,000. It covers major routes around Eastbourne, including around Beachy Head, the seafront and Lottbridge Drove.
Speaking to BournefreeLive, Inspector Sarah Taylor said: “We are delighted that EBC has obtained a PSPO for anti-social driving in the town, as we are aware this is an issue having a large detrimental effect on residents.
“It is one of our key priorities and we fully understand the frustration and disruption it causes to our communities. The additional powers the PSPO provides will further enhance the work we already do to tackle inconsiderate drivers.”
Writing for Hagerty, journalist James Mills said: “[I]t’s annoying that these antisocial drivers – who supposedly love car culture – are doing their level best to ruin things for all car enthusiasts.
“If you know people who are fuelling the antisocial side of driving, perhaps it’s time to point them toward some succinct advice, popularised by the good folks at car culture destination Caffeine & Machine: Don’t be a d***.”
