The Met Office has said "general snow" could be just days away as weather conditions in Britain look set to take an Arctic plunge.
Snow has started falling today (Thursday, November 23) over the mountains in Scotland and tomorrow morning (Friday, November 24) will be a chilly one. Temperatures are expected to drop as low as -1C in Scotland, 3C in the north of England and 5C further south.
Over this weekend, wintry showers are only expected to be focused in Scotland and parts of northern England. But that could all change from next week.

The Met Office forecast from Tuesday (November 28) onwards states that "colder than average conditions are most likely overall". Coupled with this, the national weather agency says chances are "increasing" for some wintry showers "or even more general snow".
According to the Met Office, if this bout of snow is to come it will be in and around "the turn of the month" meaning next Thursday (November 30) and Friday (December 1) could bring more of the white stuff.

The cold weather will also bring overnight frosts and an "ice risk". The Met Office said (for November 28 to December 7): "Cloud and rain is likely to be clearing southeastern England early on, followed by a period of widely colder, drier and brighter weather and the return of overnight frosts.
"Scattered showers along with an overnight ice risk may affect some coastal areas of northern and eastern Scotland, and eastern England at times, which could turn increasingly wintry over hills in the north.
"These conditions could then persist, particularly in the north, but there is an increasing chance of areas of cloud, rain and/or snow, perhaps with strong winds too, spreading north across at least southern areas from later next week."
Following this period of cold, the Met Office expects "a return to milder, more changeable weather". Temperatures are expected to be "near or above average" barring some cold interludes.
