Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed “efforts to maintain European unity” with the outgoing Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte, following the shock Dutch elections this week.
Geert Wilders’ far-right Party for Freedom (PVV) won the most votes in the Dutch election, which has sparked fears over the country’s military support to Kyiv.
The Netherlands has also been one of Ukraine’s biggest military partners since the invasion began. However, Mr Wilders has long been opposed to military aid to Ukraine.
This comes as another European leader, Robert Fico – the recently elected populist prime minister in Slovakia, described the war between Ukraine and Russia as a “frozen conflict”.
He said negotiations were now needed, instead of sending more money and arms to Ukraine.

Russia hits Kyiv with ‘biggest drone attack of conflict so far’
The largest Russian drone attack of the war so far has devastated parts of Ukraine overnight.
At least five people were injured after Iranian-made kamikaze Shahed drones descended on the capital overnight.
Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said apartment blocks and a nursery were hit.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said more than 70 drones were involved in the attack, most of which were shot down.
This comes as President Zelensky warned Ukranians to expect another winter bombardment from Moscow, similar to last year’s attacks which saw Russia target Ukraine’s energy, military and transport infrastructure.
