At least 95 people have been killed in a magnitude 6.2 earthquake in northwestern China, according to the nation’s state media.
The official Xinhua News Agency said 86 people died in the province of Gansu while another nine were killed in neighboring Qinghai. It occurred just before midnight on Monday.
More than 200 people were injured, including 96 in Gansu and 124 in Qinghai. The quake struck in Gansu’s Jishishan county – roughly five kilometres (three miles) from the border with Qinghai.
The US Geological Survey put the quake’s magnitude at 5.9.
