Workers at a bank have fallen ill, with "hazmat" suits spotted entering the property along with an emergency crew following a "funny smell".

Parts of Nuneaton town centre are now cordoned off following the incident in Santander earlier today.

Ambulances, fire engines and police cars were all spotted at the scene of the "funny smell" incident, which has reportedly left a number of people feeling unwell.

Reports of the "funny smell" came from inside the bank, with fire crews currently ventilating the building as ambulance response units attend to the potentially unwell individuals inside the bank.

Images from the scene showed the bank being cordoned off as a "minor hazmat" incident was confirmed by Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Further statements from West Midlands Ambulance Service were issued as reports of "people feeling unwell" were called in around midday today.

Their statement read: "We were called to reports of people feeling unwell on Newdigate Street at 12.26pm.

We currently have three ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team at the scene and are assessing a number of patients."

Fire service teams remain at the scene of the illness outbreak, with the building still being ventilated as of 15.37 today, CoventryLive reported.

Ambulance crews are assessing a "number of patients" with a large number of emergency service vehicles still at the premises.

Police were reportedly widening the cordon to take in more of the area around Santander bank on the corner of Newdegate Street and Bridge Street.

A large police presence is still maintained at the scene, which had reports of a "funny smell" confirmed earlier today.
