Grand Bahama Shipyard Ltd., jointly owned by Carnival Corp. and Royal Caribbean Group, is planning a $600 million “transformation” project that will include two floating drydocks.
The floating drydocks, expected to be delivered in 2025 and 2026, are under construction at CSSC Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co. in China.
Grand Bahama Shipyard say the floating docks will be the largest in the Western Hemisphere and include a mega dock capable of servicing all existing and currently planned cruise ships.
Infrastructure construction is set to begin in the last quarter of 2023 and be complete in 2025. ‘
The shipyard also plans to expand its four-year apprenticeship program to include 16 to 20 new apprentices each year.
