Tory conference cheers as Douglas Ross says 'Sturgeon is gone'
Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross prompted huge cheers and applause at Tory conference today as he declared that Nicola Sturgeon is “gone”.
The Scottish Conservative MP was giving his speech on the main stage this afternoon at the gathering in Manchester.
Mr Ross said: “Well conference, it has been a pretty interesting year in Scottish politics.
“I have more than a few things to update you on since we last met. In fact, I am struggling with where to begin.”
He then sparked rapturous applause and cheers from delegates as he said: “Well Nicola Sturgeon is gone.”
To further clapping, Mr Ross added: “Can I repeat that for those at the back โ Nicola Sturgeon is gone.”
He went on: “For years we were told that she was unstoppable. That she could, apparently, do no wrong.
“How many times did the media proclaim that Scotland was on the cusp of independence under her leadership? Or that she would wipe out the Tories.
“Well, I can proudly say that her career lies in tatters, and we โ conference โ are still here.”

Mr Ross also ripped into Ms Sturgeon’s successor Humza Yousaf, who took over as SNP leader and Scottish First Minister in March.
He said: “Now, since she left, the SNP have been having some difficulties.
“A police investigation into party finances. The luxury campervan seized. And Humza Yousaf as leader.
“The best the SNP now have to offer is a poor Nicola Sturgeon tribute act.”
