The architect of the 1997 landslide election victory gives occasional advice to party leader Sir Keir Starmer, who
he branded the “nearest thing to Blair” around.
Lord Mandelson praised Mr Starmer for making the party “normal again” and said he would do “anything and everything I can”
to help him win a majority.

But the peer said Unite boss Sharon Graham was right to say Labour is being “too timid”.
He added: “We need more than policy tweaks and we need more than small twists in the policy dial. I’m happy to be bold, but not bold and stupid.”

Ms Graham said: “I want a Labour government that is going to make real change to people’s lives.”
She has called for the renationalisation of energy.
