Donald Trump to skip second GOP debate as seven candidates are announced

Donald Trump says he doesn’t worry about going to jail

Donald Trump will yet again be the standout absentee from the next GOP debate as the seven Republican candidates going head-to-head in the televised showdown are announced.

The former president skipped the first debate last month and will also be missing from the stage at Ronald Reagan’s presidential library in California tomorrow, instead choosing to hold events in the battleground state of Michigan.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former Vice President Mike Pence, biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina have all made the cut.

However, the Republican National Committee (RNC) has confirmed that former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson did not qualify.

To qualify for tomorrow’s debate, the White House hopefuls needed at least three percent support in two national polls or three percent in one national poll in addition to two polls from four of the early-voting states Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina.

The candidates also required a minimum of 50,000 donors with at least 200 of those coming from 20 states or territories.

  • Joe Biden leaves the room cringing again as he has disaster live on stage

Joe Biden has suffered another humiliating disaster live on stage after botching a speech in the latest in a series of verbal blunders.

Biden, 80, has been at the center of a host of gaffes in recent weeks as many critics increasingly question his ability to run in the upcoming presidential election.

The latest embarrassing moment for the president came during a speech to the Pacific Island leaders at White House forum on Monday.

He got completely stumped as he was trying to dictate the abbreviation of his administration’s Pacific Islands Infrastructure Initiative.

Trump and Biden both in battleground state this week in play for working-class voters

Donald Trump and Joe Biden could be set for their most direct confrontation in several months this week in a battleground state play for working-class voters.

The president is joining striking autoworkers in Michigan on Tuesday, while Trump had already announced plans to meet with voters in the state.

The move could point towards the rivals seemingly increasingly turning their attention to an early election rematch.

Biden campaign officials have said the ramped-up focus on Trump is driven in part by the former president’s recent moves on issues they expect to be crucial next fall — abortion and the economy, according to NBC News.

Donald Trump boldly claims windmills are driving whales ‘crazy’ – and scientists react

Donald Trump claimed windmills are driving whales a “little batty” and killing them “in numbers never seen before” in a bizarre speech on Monday.

The ex-president made the outlandish claim during a rally in South Carolina.

He also took aim at Joe Biden’s regulations on speed boats at the rally in the town of Summerville, vowing to overturn regulations on “day one”.

Turning his attention to whales, Trump told a cheering crowd: “Windmills are causing whales to die in numbers never seen before. Nobody does anything about that.”

He continued: “The windmills are driving them crazy. They’re driving the whales a little batty. And they are washing up on shore in levels never seen before.”

Donald Trump pledges to investigate parent company of NBC News for ‘treason’

In a post on Truth Social from Sunday, former President Donald Trump announced his intent to investigate Comcast, the parent company of NBC and MSNBC, if he is elected in 2024.

Trump’s fiery statement alleged that Comcast, through its subsidiary NBC News and MSNBC, engages in what he deems “knowingly dishonest and corrupt coverage of people, things, and events.”

This declaration, echoing his past criticisms of the media, raises questions about the future of the relationship between the government and the press.

Trump didn’t mince words, asserting that Comcast should be investigated for “Country Threatening Treason.”

He further labeled the network “MSDNC (Democrat National Committee!)” as he decried their “one-sided and vicious coverage.”

Donald Trump rages at bid to keep him from 2024 ballot, says First Amendment protects him

Donald Trump’s legal team has hit back at attempts to keep the former president off the ballot in 2024, arguing the application of a rarely-used clause in the Constitution would violate his freedom of speech.

The attempt to use a Civil War-era “insurrection clause” in the 14th Amendment comes as Trump faces four trials over the coming months, two of which are connected to his alleged role in the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol.

Section Three of the amendment bars anyone who once swore an oath to uphold the Constitution from office if they later “engaged” in “insurrection or rebellion”.

The clause was added to prevent Confederate officials from being elected to Congress and seizing power.

But responding to a filing lodged in a Colorado court on Monday, Trump lawyer Geoffrey Blue said: “At no time do Petitioners argue that President Trump did anything other than engage in either speaking or refusing to speak for their argument that he engaged in the purported insurrection.”
