Former Conservative MP Andrew Bridgen is parting ways with the Reclaim Party just six months after he joined.

Reclaim leader Laurence Fox, who founded the party after being cancelled as an actor, confirmed in a joint statement with the North West Leicestershire MP that their partnership has come to an end.

Mr Bridgen joined Reclaim after he was expelled from the Tories for quoting Jewish academics who claimed that the COVID-19 vaccines could be the worst crime against humanity since the Holocaust.

He was accused of “anti-Semitism” which led to his expulsion despite being supported by more than 30 Israeli and Jewish academics in a letter of support.

Mr Fox and Reclaim took the opportunity to get their first MP in Parliament and agreed to support his efforts to get reelected.

But in a statement issued this morning, the MP and party confirmed they were separating.

Mr Fox said: “It has been a pleasure working with Andrew. He is a man of great bravery and we remain hugely supportive of his campaigning on a number of issues.

“He rightly sees his role to raise issues of concern to his constituents. There are too few in parliament prepared to do that.

“He has been an excellent constituency MP and we wish him every success in his bid for re-election in North West Leicestershire. As a reflection of that support, we have made a considerable donation to Andrew’s campaign fund.”

Mr Bridgen said: “I would like to personally thank Laurence and Reclaim for all their help and support over the last 9 months.

“The issue of free speech is the essential pillar of our democracy. Reclaim will continue to lead that fight and I wish them well for the future.”

While Mr Bridgen has largely focussed on raising questions about the COVID-19 vaccine programme, Mr Fox and Reclaim have wanted to concentrate more on cancel culture and tackling woke issues.
