A huge storm is set to sweep through parts of the UK today (Sunday, December 17).<\/p>\n
The Met Office has issued an updated amber warning for rain to residents in north-west Scotland and say conditions could pose a \u201cdanger to life\u201d there. The warning is in place until 6pm.<\/p>\n
Fort William and Ullapool are among the places covered by the amber warning. Surrounding areas near Inverness, Tobermory and Portree are under a yellow warning with rainfall also expected there.<\/p>\n

Met Office says for areas under the amber warning: "Persistent, heavy rain is likely to cause significant travel disruption and flooding." People have been told: <\/p>\n
\nThere is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses<\/li>\n Spray and flooding probably leading to difficult driving conditions and some road closures<\/li>\n Fast flowing or deep floodwater is likely, causing danger to life<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n <\/p>\n
\nDelays and some cancellations to train and bus services are likely<\/li>\n Homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings<\/li>\n A good chance some communities will be cut off by blocked roads<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nAnother yellow warning – this time for wind – has been issued in the north and northeast of England. It is in place until 6pm today and covers towns such as Middlesbrough, Durham, Sunderland and Newcastle.<\/p>\n

Winds there could reach up to 65mph, the Met Office says. The national weather agency warns:<\/p>\n
