Omid Scobie has admitted an early version of his new biography contained the names of two senior royals embroiled in a race row – after previously denying it.

Endgame hit shelves around the world on November 28 and contained a number of bombshell claims. But the Dutch translation of the book was even more controversial than the original English as it suggested Kate Middleton and King Charles were the two royals accused of making racially-charged comments about the skin colour ofPrince Harry and Meghan Markle's then-unborn child, Archie.

Copies were quickly pulled from shelves after an "early and uncleared manuscript" had been sent and the book's publisher in the Netherlands, Xander, said the names had been included in "error." Since then Scobie has always denied including the names in any version of his polarising latest release.

Now, however, the controversial journalist has made a U-turn on these claims and admitted "early and uncleared" manuscript did name the monarch and the Princess of Wales in descriptions of the now infamous controversy.

He said today (Friday, December 8): "Unbeknownst to me at the time, early and uncleared text was provided to the Dutch publisher in order for them to start work on the translation, with the understanding that their translation would be updated to reflect the final version of the book I officially submitted."

He added: "To be clear, the only publisher I worked directly with was the one covering the US and UK. I spent almost two months with independent British barristers and in-house legal counsel to ensure that every detail in the finished book was legally watertight."

He previously told Dutch chat show RTL Boulevard: "If there are translation errors, I'm sure the publishers will have it under control. I wrote and edited the English version. There's never been [a] version I've produced which has names in it."

The race row initially began off the back of allegations made during Harry and Meghan's explosive 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey. During the chat, Meghan claimed there had been "concerns and conversations about how dark his (Archie’s) skin might be when he’s born."

The statement prompted the late Queen to issue a statement saying "recollections may vary" but adding the allegations were "concerning". Prince William later publicly stated: "We are very much not a racist family."
