<\/p>\nA group of mates have shared chilling images of their urban exploring adventure inside an abandoned military base.<\/p>\n
Spooky old signs, some sharing warnings about cyanide, and even military plans were found in the base on the outskirts of Melbourne, Australia. One of the dark tourists was Monika, a Brit enjoying some extended travels Down Under. She spoke to the Daily Star about what she had seen inside the base and shed some light on the realities of what had been left behind.<\/p>\n
Defence Site Maribyrnong sits to the northwest of the Melbourne Central Bussiness District, but despite being surrounded by suburbs, lies abandoned.<\/p>\n

Nestled in a crook on the south bank of the Maribyrnong River, the sprawling site has taken the fancy of many an urban explorer since its closure in 1994. Prior to that, it was a munitions factory, its address on the aptly named Cordite Road, and has also been the site of military canteens and research laboratories.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the Star about her trip behind the wire, Monika said: \u201cIt was quite a big site with several buildings with a fence around it that we climbed and there are cameras in some parts. But they were the only cameras \u2013 once we were inside the area there was nothing else there no other security or anything like that.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe found a lot of old phones from the 90\u2019s with wires, really old ones, but it was weird some [of the things we found] were dated to 2012 \u2013 I think that\u2019s probably when they cleared out of the building. But they left loads of s***, there was loads of ruined office furniture and old computers, the ones from the 90s again the really big ones, fat ones, with keyboards, old fire extinguishers.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the really cool things that we found was still up on the wall about the symptoms and signs of cyanide poisoning. I have no idea what was going on in that facility but it was probably a testing facility for something.\u201d<\/p>\n

Monika also got a look at some diagrams for what appeared to be a \u201cbomb testing site.\u201d That came according to plans she found inside the base which appeared to have been left behind. One of the plans she found was \u201cdated to 1986. It\u2019s just weird that they left them there.\u201d<\/p>\n
