A popular automotive influencer has tested the common belief that electric vehicles lose range when the driver turns on the heater.<\/p>\n

Abigayle, known to fans as @shetalkscars, is a motoring expert who regularly posts short videos to her TikTok page, giving advice to motorists.<\/p>\n

In one of her most recent videos, Abigayle tests the theory that turning on the heating reduces range using the latest electric SUV from Genesis.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cDo you lose miles in an electric car when you turn the heating on? Well, look here. I\u2019ve turned the heating on and as you can see, I\u2019ve lost 20 miles.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd as soon as I turn it off, it\u2019s back to 184 [miles]. I\u2019m willing to take 20 miles off just to be warm.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the vehicle retailer Perrys, turning the heater on in an electric vehicle will reduce the range by, on average, 17 percent.<\/p>\n

This is because the heater, and other features such as headlights and radios, are powered by the same battery which is used to give energy to the motors.<\/p>\n

The organisation suggested that electric vehicle owners should take advantage of any preheating functions their car offers, which heats the cabin up whilst it is on charge.<\/p>\n

However, whilst confirming that electric vehicles are not able to cover as many miles when the heater is turned on, Abigayle noted that it does not make as much of a difference as some believe.<\/p>\n

She explained: \u201cSo the long and short of it is, yes, you do lose miles, but not many. I\u2019m getting about 240 miles on a full charge with this Genesis GV70 Electrified.<\/p>\n
