Renault has announced it will relaunch the classic Twingo supermini as an electric hatchback, with prices starting at under \u20ac20,000 (\u00a317,000).<\/p>\n

Unveiled at the company\u2019s \u2018Capital Market Day\u2019, the prototype model shares a lot of it\u2019s styling with the original Twingo model, produced between 1993 and 2007.<\/p>\n

The most notable feature of the electric car is the semi-circular head and taillights, which give the model a cute bug-eyed look.<\/p>\n

Other notable features include circular door handles, flared rear wheel arches and three pronounced air vents on the bonnet.<\/p>\n

Whilst Renault have yet to share any images of the new Twingo\u2019s interior, they have confirmed it will use sustainable materials.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the event, Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault, stated that the revival of the Twingo is set to cause as much of a stir as the original.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201c[the Twingo] will be a game changer once again, like it was 30 years ago. This is a fit-for-purpose urban vehicle, state-of-the-art EV without compromise.\u2019<\/p>\n

The Twingo is set to be produced by 2026, by which time it will likely compete with the Volkswagen ID1, the new Fiat Panda and a number of Chinese-built models.<\/p>\n

Renault have yet to announce any performance figures for the upcoming Twingo, however the company states that the EV will offer economy of up to 6.2 miles per kilowatt-hour (kWh).<\/p>\n

This makes the model considerably more efficient than the current Renault Zoe EV, which can travel 4.59 miles per kWh.<\/p>\n

Renault also claim that the new hatch will produce 75 percent less carbon dioxide compared to a typical petrol or diesel-powered car.<\/p>\n
