A Netflix producer working on a show about an Israeli spy has been killed while fighting Hamas.

Matan Meir had been involved as a producer on the show Fauda, a programme centring on an Israeli spy setting out to uncover a terror plot. The 38-year-old was killed alongside five other soldiers in a deadly explosion.

Described as having a "heart of gold", Matan set out to help Israel's 551st Brigade 697th Battalion after the war broke out. But an update from the Netflix show's account confirmed the tragic death.

An official post from the Fauda show on X, formerly Twitter, confirmed the death and paid tribute to the "integral crew member" and his family.

It read: "We are devastated to share that one of our Fauda family members, Matan Meir, was killed in action in Gaza. Matan was an integral crew member. The cast and crew are heartbroken by this tragic loss. We extend our condolences to Matan's family and friends. May his soul rest in peace."

Further reports from The Times of Israel claim he was one of five IDF soldiers killed in a horror blast outside of an underground tunnel. It is believed the tunnel had been booby-trapped by Hamas terrorists.

Matan's official role at Netflix has yet to be confirmed though it is believed he was a production manager on the show. Some scenes featured in Fauda were recorded on the Gaza Strip before war broke out.

Tributes from Lior Raz, who served in the IDF's elite Unit 217 before creating the show, paid tribute to Matan. The Sun reported his statement, which read: "Matan was a man with a heart of gold, full of kindness and giving.

"I loved you Matan. You were always available to me at every moment. You always told me, no problem, it's never too small for me. A man of work and giving out of true love. May your memory be for a blessing."

Fellow tributes were paid by Liat Benasuly, the lead producer of the series, who wrote: "Matan was a man with a different soul. A man who entered everyone's heart. A true moshavnik and a man who took real joy in life. A production man who only wanted to help and do for others. And all with a smile and love. We will miss him very much."
