Festival-goers at a massive event in Hong Kong have been urged to get medical help after several people complained of eye issues.

Thousands of people attended ApeFest – a music festival held by the Yuga Labs and the Bored Ape Yacht Club – which was a huge rave, coupled with masses of Ultra Violet lights. And it now appears that the lighting has given anyone attending serious eye problems, with some complaining that the lights had “burned” their eyes.

Taking to Twitter/X to tell their story, one said: “Woke up in the middle of the night after Apefest with so much pain in my eyes that I had to go to the hospital. I've seen several tweets about it (and the) doctor told me it was due to the UV from stage lights.

“I go to festivals often but have never experienced this, I try to understand how it could happened, that almost 1000 people were made blind. It seems like the lamps where not safe.”

And another, crypto expert Adrian Zduńczyk, said: “As dozens of others, I’ve almost lost sight this night. I’m being taken care of by doctors now and have only good intentions writing this post. To all my friends who suffer now: go get your eyes checked. You’ve likely most literally got your eyes burnt with UV like I did, which requires medications, eye drops, eye protection, antibiotics and specialist care.
