Rishi Sunak on Gaza hospital attack findings

Hard-left Labour MP Zarah Sultana has been fact-checked over an Israel social media post.

The Coventry South MP took to X, formerly known as Twitter, following a blast at a Gaza hospital earlier this month.

She blamed an Israeli airstrike for the deadly incident at the Al-Ahli hospital, where hundreds of people are believed to have been killed.

But Rishi Sunak has since said the blast was likely caused by a missile launched from within Gaza towards Israel.

A community note has now been added to her post, which has sparked criticism from other users including calls for Sir Keir Starmer to strip her of the Labour whip.

Ms Sultana said on October 17: “More than 500 people are reported to have been killed after an Israeli airstrike hit a hospital in Gaza.

“Political leaders of all parties – including my own – must call for an urgent ceasefire and an end to the war on Gaza.

“More innocent lives must not be lost.”

But the community note reads: “US, Canadian, French and UK intelligence services have analysed the evidence and concluded that the blast was caused by a Palestinian rocket and not an Israeli airstrike.”

Labour MP Andrew McDonald has also been urged to apologise and delete a tweet claiming Israel was responsible for the bombing.

Speaking in the Commons on Monday, the Prime Minister said that the Government had been assessing the cause of the al Ahli atrocity since last week.

He told MPs that it was “likely caused by a missile, or part of one, that was launched from within Gaza towards Israel”.

Hamas had blamed an Israeli airstrike, but the Israeli military said it was a misfiring rocket from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group.
