Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has said his government will reject any Palestinian refugees from Gaza.

As Israel ordered all civilians to evacuate northern Gaza due to impending airstrikes on Hamas targets, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza have moved south towards the border crossing into Egypt at Rafah.

But Egypt has not permitted civilians to flee the territory and resettle in the Sinai Peninsula.

El-Sisi said the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian people will not be resolved if civilians are forced to leave their homes and “end the statehood dream.”

El-Sisi said at a summit on Saturday: “The whole Egyptian people won’t accept the liquidation of the Palestinian cause…and will never happen on the expense of Egypt.”

The Egyptian government held a summit on the Israel-Hamas war on Saturday, with el-Sisi setting out a roadmap to end the ongoing conflict.

His plan included ensuring the flow of aid to Gaza, negotiating a ceasefire, and embarking on peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

El-Sisi added he wants to establish a Palestinian state based on the borders before the Six-Day War in 1967.

He said at the summit: “We are facing an unprecedented crisis that requires full attention to avert expanding the conflict.”

This comes amid Israel’s preparation for a full ground invasion of Gaza after Hamas’ attack on southern Israel on October 7.

The Egyptian president previously suggested that Israel’s siege of Gaza and complete blockade on the territory is just an effort to force Egypt to accept refugees and prevent them from returning.

El-Sisi added that Sinai would be turned into a launching ground for “terrorist attacks” against Israel if they accepted refugees, which would in turn blame Egypt for attacks.

He has instead proposed that Israel move the Palestinians to the Negev region in Israel until it ends its “announced mission” of destroying Hamas.

Despite refusing to accept Gazan refugees, Egypt has encouraged Israel to allow humanitarian aid convoys into the territory.

The Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza opened on Saturday briefly to let 20 aid trucks into the Gaza Strip.
