<\/p>\nMutant fleas are set to join forces with bedbugs in an unstoppable insect uprising.<\/p>\n
The British Pest Control Association has revealed the parasites \u2013 which can bite humans as well as animals \u2013 are increasingly resistant to shop-bought flea treatments. <\/p>\n
They warned tick populations are also on the rise in rural areas. It has sparked fears of a wave of Lyme disease infections, amid growing concerns a French bedbug crisis is taking hold here.<\/p>\n

John Horsley, from the BPCA said: \u201cIt can be distressing to discover an insect infestation.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not pleasant to be bitten by fleas or bedbugs. Different pest problems require the use of specific techniques and products. So if you discover you have an unwanted guest, it\u2019s essential you establish what species it is before you take any action.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fleas can be carried into any home on pets, people or soft furnishings. They can often be killed off by DIY treatments \u2013 unlike ticks and bedbugs.<\/p>\n
Mr Horsley added: \u201cIf you\u2019re unsure what you\u2019re dealing with, immediately call a pest professional such as a BPCA member for help.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pest Control Manchester revealed calls about bedbugs have soared by 40% in a month. Abbie Glover, from the firm, said: \u201cBedbugs are one of the worst pests as they are so hard to get rid of.\u201d<\/p>\n

It comes after a bed bug boff revealed how they lurk in our wardrobes during the day before launching night-time attacks under the duvet.<\/p>\n
Professor Mary Cameron, of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, said: "Although they\u2019re called bed bugs, they come into the bed to bite you when it\u2019s dark, but then they scurry away into cracks and crevices within the bedroom.<\/p>\n
"So you wouldn\u2019t find them so much in the bed, you\u2019d probably find them inside bedside cabinets, in cracks and crevices, or behind the headboard or in wardrobes, because they like to be in dark places during the day."<\/p>\n
