King Charles is "subtly punishing" Prince Harry for taking a stand against the Firm in a swathe of tell-all interviews and publications, a royal expert has claimed.

The pair are barely on speaking terms any more after the Duke of Sussex stepped down from royal duties alongside wife Meghan Markle in 2020 and left the UK for Montecito, California. Since then the duo has launched a barrage of unflattering claims against members of the Royal Family including the king himself, Queen Camilla,Prince William and Kate Middleton.

And while the monarch hasn't publicly addressed Harry's outbursts, royal author Duncan Larcombe says Charles has his own way of showing his displeasure at the prince's "betrayal". "It appears that King Charles’ approach towards Harry now is business as usual – 'if you want to see me you need to make an appointment'," Larcombe told The Sun.

"Harry will have to get past the grey suits and jump through hoops to talk to his father. It’s very standoffish but I think that’s a way that the king is subtly punishing his son."

Larcombe said it was Harry's comments about Camilla in particular that caused a rift with his estranged dad after the duke dubbed his stepmother a "villain". He added: “Harry has said some deeply hurtful things about Camilla, and yet the King will still correspond with his son, albeit not directly."

Despite the ongoing rift between Harry and his father, there have been glimmers of hope of an eventual reconciliation. When Charles became king, he extended an olive branch by publicly wishing Harry and Meghan well in their "life overseas".
