A street in the UK is so ridden with crime that police have to act as bodyguards for traffic wardens.

Residents of Stratford Road in Birmingham claim they have witnessed everything from parking issues, “drug deals” and violent attacks.

On Monday, September 4, three arrests were made after two traffic wardens were allegedly attacked on the street.

Following the assaults Birmingham Council said "nobody should suffer abuse or assault for simply trying to do their job", reports BirminghamLive.

Now, West Midlands Police say they are "determined to bring their assailants to justice" so wardens are patrolling with police community support officers (PCSOs).

Smack bang in the centre of the road you’ll find Sparkbrook Pharmacy, which Zhaid Chishti has owned for more than 23 years.

He claims life on the street outside his business has changed, and now there is “no respect for authorities”.

He told BirminghamLive: “Crime levels are high, you see crime going on in front of you.

“We have our fair share of shoplifting, you see drug dealing."

But he praised police in the area, adding: "We have regular bobbies on the beat, police respond when we call them, but half the time the incident is done and dusted."

He reflected: "It's got a little bit worse, it's never been good." Stratford Road is busy with shoppers, but it is also a social area where crowds gather into the night – it is a popular spot in the city, full of families and diners."

Another worker at Silo Off Licence and Food and Wine claimed they don’t get much trouble in the shop, but there is trouble everywhere else.
