Evil baby murderer Lucy Letby could be momentarily allowed outside prison under very particular circumstances, but it is still unlikely, an expert says.<\/p>\n
Letby, 33, is currently serving life imprisonment for the murder of seven babies and attempted murder of six others. <\/p>\n
She became the fourth woman in Britain to be handed a whole-life order, meaning she will never be released from prison.<\/p>\n

However, Dylan Rhys Jones, a former criminal defence lawyer, said a family emergency is her only hope of seeing the outside world.<\/p>\n

He told Express.co.uk: "The only thing that I can seriously envisage is the illness of a close relative. It would have to be a serious illness, as in someone is dying. Or, perhaps, to visit a funeral. Even that's not guaranteed."<\/p>\n
Prison authorities assess in meticulous detail whether or not a prisoner is fit to leave their compound \u2014 even if it is just for a few hours. Should Letby ever want to visit the outside world for something like a funeral, she would have to apply to the prison authorities for a temporary licence release. <\/p>\n
The authorities would not only take into consideration the nature of the outside visit but a number of other factors to determine whether Letby was fit for temporary release.<\/p>\n

Mr Rhys Jones added: \u201cThey would carry out a risk assessment: what risk Letby poses to herself, what risk the public poses to her, whether she is at risk of absconding, all manner of things.\u201d<\/p>\n
It is possible for prisoners to apply for a special purpose licence, a type of release on temporary licence which allows those behind bars "a short duration temporary release, often at short notice, that allows eligible offenders to respond to exceptional, personal circumstances," according to UK prison regulations.<\/p>\n
Earlier this month chartered security professional James Bore, the director of family consultancy Bores told the Mirror: \u201cAny day release for parents' funerals, or anything else, would be based on a risk assessment.<\/p>\n
\u201cI find it extremely unlikely that any sort of temporary release would be granted – for her own safety as much as anything else. Currently, she's being segregated within Low Newton, again to prevent her from being attacked. Social media rumours saying that she's been attacked already are misinformation."<\/p>\n
