Every European city has a few \u2018must see\u2019 attractions but unfortunately not all the continent\u2019s top landmarks leave tourists impressed. Whether it\u2019s Barcelona\u2019s Las Ramblas or a cheeky fountain in Brussels, a few of Europe\u2019s most popular attractions aren\u2019t quite hitting the mark.<\/p>\n
According to Tripadvisor reviews, The Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen is one of Denmark\u2019s most overhyped attractions. The famous statue is perched on a rock at the city\u2019s Langelinie Pier.<\/p>\n
A tourist \u2018Jonofromcas\u2019 wrote on Tripadvisor: \u201cSmall and insignificant statue hyped up to be something special. People clamber over the rocks to get close and there is a scrum of people directly in front of it as they are dispatched from the numerous tourist buses which flock here. I suppose it\u2019s a Copenhagen must do, but it\u2019s all hype.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another tourist \u2018jaybeeFL\u2019 said: \u201cLike so many other sculptures, this is one that is somewhat overhyped especially if you are on a canal cruise since all you get to see are side and rear shots! So many better \u2018must sees\u2019 in this incredible city!\u201d<\/p>\n
Inspired by Hans Christian Anderson\u2019s famous fairytale, the Little Mermaid sculpture was a gift from Danish brewer Carl Jacobsen to the city. The brewer first fell in love with the story when he saw a ballet interpretation at Copenhagen\u2019s Royal Danish Theatre.<\/p>\n

Each time, city officials have recovered the statue and restored her.<\/p>\n Another tourist said: \u201cThe statue is quite small with a backdrop of quite ugly buildings and its location near to cruise ships means it is invariably busy.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2018S L\u2019 said: \u201cWhen you want to visit the Little Mermaid\u2026you may want to manage your expectations. More info<\/p>\n \u201cThe location is filled with tourists trying to get a close up picture and repeatedly risking themselves falling into the water and the entire system for bus tours is constructed almost in a manner befitting of a production line.\u201d<\/p>\n However, another tourist said the travellers \u201crisking their health for a selfie\u201d made their visit to the Little Mermaid far more entertaining.<\/p>\n If Copenhagen\u2019s famous resident doesn\u2019t appeal, the city has plenty of other top attractions to discover.
