An eerie clip of Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin has resurfaced online, sparking conspiracy theories around the warlord’s death.

In the video, less than 60 seconds long, Prigozhin compared Russia’s trajectory in the Ukraine War to a plane set to “fall apart in the air” and said he would rather be killed than lie to his country.

Some think the eerie comparison from some months’ ago is further evidence to support the notion that the Wagner chief was assassinated, by order of Russia’s president Vladimir Putin.

One person claimed Prigozhin “knew” what his fate was, months before he was confirmed by the Russian government as one of 10 passengers killed in a plane crash northwest of Moscow.

Because I don’t have the right, before those people who will live on in this country. They are now being lied to. Better kill me.”

He added: “But I will not lie, I must say honestly that Russia is on the brink of disaster. And if these cogs are not adjusted today, then the plane will fall apart in the air.”

The resurfaced video was shared on Grey Zone, Wagner’s Telegram channel which anyone can join, and quickly sparked thousands of reactions.

One Telegram user, using the handle Outpost, said: “But he knew.”

Another said: “Truth from the first to last word.”

The timing of Prigozhin’s death has so far raised eyebrows as it occurred just two months after he made headlines by leading a mutinous march on Moscow – which he abruptly stopped as his men reached 200km from Moscow.

The Kremlin, however, denies any involvement in his death, dismissing it as an “absolute lie”.

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you.
