Toddler sinks gnashers into snake and kills it in revenge for it biting her

A two-year-old girl shocked her neighbours after they found her locked in a struggle with a snake.

Locals in the village of Kantar in the Turkish city Bingol came rushing to help after hearing the girl's screams on August 10.

When they arrived, they found that the two-year-old had a half-metre-long snake clenched in her mouth.

They also noticed that she had some nasty looking bite marks on her lower lip.

The tot, who has only been identified by her initials, S.E was rushed to Bingol Maternity and Children's Hospital after the incident, where she was placed under observation for 24 hours.

After spending time in hospital, the girl is now reported as doing well and recovering.

The snake itself was killed in the incident.

The girl had reportedly been playing with the snake before it bit her on her lower lip.

In response the girl had returned the favour and bitten the snake back.

Her dad Mehmet Ercan was at work when the snake struck.

He said: "Allah has protected her, really.

"Our neighbours have told me that the snake was in the hand of my child, she was playing with it and then it bit her.

"Then she has bitten the snake back as a reaction."

Turkey is home to around 45 different species of snake.

Of these, 12 are venomous and dangerous to humans, and should be avoided if encountered.

These include the horned viper, which is easy to spot owing to the distinctive horns on its head where it gets its name from.

There is also the menacingly-named black cobra, as well as the ottoman viper.

Snakes will generally not bite unless provoked or threatened, however they can easily camouflage themselves which can mean that people step on them by accident.

The species of snake involved in the incident is not clear, as the length of 50cm applies to a lot of species found in Turkey.
