A teenager has died after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle on a busy main road.
The unnamed 16-year-old cyclist was travelling by bike when he was involved in a collision with a grey Ford Focus on the South Distributor Road in Newport, South Wales, yesterday afternoon.
The 28-year-old driver, from the Rhondda Cynon Taf area, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after the incident.
Gwent Police said he is being held in custody.
The collision happened outside the Blaina Wharf pub on the westbound carriageway just before 2pm.
The South Distributor Road was closed in both directions between Corporation Road and Alexandra Road near the Transporter Bridge.
Emergency services were in attendance at the scene of the fatal crash and officers are supporting the boy's heartbroken family.
Gwent Police are investigating and appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or anyone who may have dashcam footage, to contact them.
They are asked to call 101 or message Gwent Police quoting log 222 16/10/20.
