A teenager allegedly raped an 18-month-old baby girl in a horrifying attack.
The 19-year-old, a relative of the infant, allegedly carried out the twisted act in the central Indian city of Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday, September 19.
He targeted the child while her parents weren’t at home, police claim.
The teenager was arrested in the city of Jabalpur, 110km (68 miles) away.
He was held under the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act (POCSO) 2012.
Additional Superintendent of Police Shiv Kumar Singh said: “The incident happened at night when the infant’s mother had gone out to buy vegetables, and the father had not returned home from work.
“When the woman came home, she found the infant in a distressed condition and rushed her to hospital. Reportedly, the child is out of danger.
Earlier this month, an 86-year-old grandmother was raped on a farm in India by a man who offered her a lift to buy milk.
The victim was attacked in west Delhi’s Chhawla region, while on her way to a nearby village.
She had been waiting for the milkman before the assailant carried out the horrifying assault.

Swati Maliwal, head of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), told the BBC: "He told her that her regular milk delivery man wasn't coming and offered to take her to the place where she could get milk."
The victim was then taken to a nearby farm and raped.
Ms Maliwal added: "She kept crying and begging him to leave her. She told him that she was like his grandmother.
“But he ignored her pleas and assaulted her mercilessly when she tried to resist and protect herself.”
Local villagers rushed to the scene after hearing the victim’s cries, apprehended the attacker and called police.
Officials arrested a 37-year-old man identified as Sonu, a plumber from Rewla Khanpur, Delhi, the Indian Express reports.
Indian police recorded a horrifying 33,977 rape cases in 2018 – and there are fears the true number could be far higher.
