A teacher accused of rape and having sex with a student has broken his silence ahead of a trial, saying he had nothing but "positive experiences" with his pupils.

Ex-teacher Christopher Bendann claims he's been "hurt" by the experiences of dealing with the prosecution, who he says have "done their best to defame my character".

He further alleged the trial and storm of controversy had left his former pupils "questioning every positive experience" they had shared with him and "wondering about my intentions".

A trial date was set for December 14, with strong words dished out by the former Baltimore, United States school teacher, aimed at county prosecutors, Gilman School and even the alleged victim.

Mr Bendann said: "Gilman and Baltimore [County] have done their best to defame my character, to make my former students question my relationships with them.

"And that’s what hurts the most. That there are hundreds of children that are now questioning every positive experience that they’ve had with me and wondering about my intentions."

The ex-teacher had worked at an all boys school from 2007 until this year, and is facing sexual abuse charges of a minor, sexual solicitation of a minor and rape and related offense of a former student, The Baltimore Banner reported.

Those accusations were dated between 2016 and 2017.

Mr Bendann added: "I want to assure those students that I’ve never had any ill intentions towards them, only thought the best toward them, and still think highly of them."

A former student of Mr Bendann claimed the alleged sex acts occurred at "several different houses", while one incident also occurred in a McDonald's parking lot where the ex-teacher allegedly pressured a teen to "expose himself".

The school fired Mr Bendann in January after learning of several alleged "instances of inappropriate contact" with his students.

Steve Silverman, attorney to the anonymous student, claimed the slate of alleged crimes were the "tip of the iceberg".
