Staffie found wandering in Home Bargains dog food aisle ‘looking for dinner’

A lonely dog was found wandering around a Home Bargains pet food aisle “looking for his dinner”.

The Staffordshire bull terrier was spotted strolling into the shop in Heanor, Derbyshire, on Saturday, March 7.

Staff at the discount store quickly launched an appeal to find the owner and uploaded a cheeky snap of the pooch onto the Spotted Heanor Facebook page to find his owner.

Sales assistant Dawn Bull said a customer took the Staffie to a local vet, adding that the owner was quickly found.

She told Derbyshire Live: "He just wandered in on his own which was a bit of a shock.

"He was happily walking up and down the aisles looking for hand sanitiser and toilet rolls I think!"

Ms Bull continued: "We found him in the pet food aisle, I think he was looking for his dinner.

"We put a lead on him, and a woman came and took him up to the vets.

"The dog's owner was soon found so that's good."

In more cases of good news, Britain’s loneliest dog Bess finally found a new home after a shelter auditioned hundreds earlier this month.

Bess was a “difficult” dog who could not trust humans after years of constant rejection.

And after whittling it down from thousands of eager applicants – Bess has found her perfect match – a couple without children in their home, no other pets and some land for the pooch to explore.

Although the final checks still have to be carried out, and the staff at the centre do not want to reveal any names, the spokeswoman did reveal that her new owners were the ideal applicants.
