An Egyptian court has since called on the scheduled execution to be broadcast live on TV to act as “deterrence” for attacks against women.
Writing to the Egyptian parliament, the Mansoura court said: "The broadcast, even if only part of the start of proceedings, could achieve the goal of deterrence, which was not achieved by broadcasting the sentencing itself."
Adel confessed to his crime, having been caught after he was detained by people in the area who witnessed the attack.
A live broadcast execution in Egypt hasn’t been carried out since 1998.
Adel can appeal the verdict, which was made public on July 24. The Egyptian civilian execution method is hanging.
