Queen ‘mourning death of childhood friend’ who was descendant of Russian Tsars

One of the Queen's closets friends has died at the age of 97 with the monarch said to be heartbroken.

Lady Myra Butter, who was also a very close friend and cousin of the late Prince Philp, was a descendent of former Russian Tsar Nicholas I.

She was also related to Russia poet and playwright Alexander Pushkin.

It was thought that the Queen and Lady Butter had been friends since their childhood days, and had grown up together.

She was also reported to be in the Queen's inner-circle of friends.

Joe Little, from Majesty Magazine, tweeted: “Myra was a close friend of the Queen and Prince Philip since childhood and from time to time appeared in royal documentaries.

“Lady Butter was a daughter of Sir Harold and Lady Zia Wernher, and a granddaughter of Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich of Russia and Countess de Torby.”

It is not know if the Queen will attend the funeral, which is due to be held in Scotland, although Her Majesty is currently in residence at Balmoral north of the border.

Lady Butter was one of the guests at the wedding of the Queen and Prince Philip in 1947.

Lady Butter told the Daily Mail in 1997: “The war had been so grey that the royal wedding seemed to signify the world coming to life again.

“Everyone was determined to have a new dress for the day and I wore a blue ribbed silk dress by Dior. It was one of the first three-quarter length dresses, and I wore it with a feathered hat. I had new shoes and a bag, too – any excuse.

"All the people from the Commonwealth made the ceremony very colourful and the choir superb.

"The Princess looked truly glittering. Her dress was beautiful and she was obviously in love. Philip looked very dashing in his naval uniform – and it really did seem like a fairy tale wedding."

Lady Butter and husband Sir David Butter had five children – of which the Queen is godmother to the eldest, Sandra Elizabeth Zia.
