Prince Williams worst birthday gift for Kate as Duke ready to receive on 40th

Tomorrow (June 21) Prince William will be celebrating his 40th birthday and he'll be hoping Kate Middleton doesn't want payback for the worst gift he ever bought her.

The Duke of Cambridge once admitted that he's not the best at picking out presents for his wife, with Kate vowing to "never let him forget" one in particular.

William made the hilarious admission during a surprise appearance on former England footballer Peter Crouch’s podcast, which he hosted with Chris Stark for BBC Radio Five Live.

As they were discussing bizarre birthday gifts, Crouch revealed that he'd bought a raincoat for his model wife Abbey Clancy, three years in a row.

However, William was able to top the terrible gift.

He said: "I did get my wife a pair of binoculars once – she's never let me forget that.

"That was early on in the courtship that was – think that sealed the deal.

"It didn't go well. Honestly, I have no idea why I bought her a pair of binoculars, it seemed like a good idea at the time."

Luckily for Kate, William has managed to get her some better gifts since then.

The Duchess of Cambridge was spotted wearing one such gift as she stepped out at the Garter Day service last week.

Accessorising her blue outfit, Kate wore a glitzy £8,400 G. Collins & Sons necklace and matching £6,100 earrings.

According to Heart, William bought the earring and necklace set for his wife, which matches her deep blue engagement ring.

Royal fans were quick to react to the outfit on Twitter.

One said: "Catherine looks absolutely stunning in blue."

Another wrote: "Catherine looks magnificent no matter what she wears. One beautiful lady inside and out."

While a third added: "Just lovely. Kate is always elegant, classy and most of all appropriate."
