Missing student found after ‘seeing himself in news’ heads home for Christmas

A student who went missing two weeks ago while studying abroad has been found in Spain after he saw himself on the news.

He’d been reported missing in November when he voluntarily left the house of the a host family he was staying with in France while studying at the University of Grenoble Alpes.

They said in an online statement: “We are so happy to announce that Kenny is safe.

“Kenny is in Spain, and Carol (his mum) is in France, preparing to see Kenny and hopefully bring him home for Christmas.”

Ken Jr, a senior at St. John Fisher University in Rochester, New York, had not spoken to his family since November 27.

His fellow students reported him missing on November 29, sparking an investigation in France.

The woman who had hosted DeLand in France thought he may have left voluntarily, she told CNN before he was found.

But his father Ken DeLand Sr had argued that French authorities were not doing enough to locate him.

And his worried family launched a major media campaign to appeal for information about his whereabouts, including a website which they updated regularly.

On Thursday, Interpol issued a Yellow Notice – which is put out to help locate missing persons, often minors, or to help identify anyone who cannot identify themselves.

But on Friday, his father Ken DeLand Sr abruptly ended an interview with US news channel CNN because his son was calling him.

The family has not revealed what happened to the student during the past two weeks or where exactly he has been.

But it added in the statement: "Without everyone's help, we wouldn't have our son, hopefully, home for Christmas."

However, Ken Sr did reveal in an interview with CNN that during an emotional call, his lad had asked him to stop contacting the press.
