Meghan’s outfit ‘subtly hinted at future with Harry’ in first public appearance

Meghan Markle was introduced to the world as Prince Harry's girlfriend back in 2017 – but experts believe there were hints that she could become his wife even then.

Just under a year before they were married, the couple made their first-ever official appearance together at the Invictus Games in Toronto, an event that has always been close to the Duke's heart.

The event conveniently came to the area while Meghan was living there filming hit TV show Suits so the casually dressed couple popped along to a tennis event, the Mirror reports.

But while their outfits appeared perfectly ordinary to the untrained eye – there may have been a subtle hint hidden in Meghan's outfit of choice.

She teamed a pair of ripped blue jeans and ballet pumps with a crisp white shirt designed by her friend Misha Nonoo.

And the $185 (£140) shirt set tongues wagging after it emerged the name of the piece was called the 'husband' shirt.

At the time, Meghan and Harry weren't engaged and many wondered if the shirt was a way of signalling what was to come.

The Daily Mail even noted it was "perhaps a subtle indication by Meghan that she won’t be a single lady for much longer".

During their appearance, the happy couple held hands as they walked towards the court and smiled and exchanged small talk with each other.

The pair were said to be delighted with their first public appearance, which made headlines across the world.

A royal source said at the time: "It was a calm fun atmosphere for the competitors and their families which was the most important thing."

And just several months later, Harry and Meghan announced their engagement to the world before marrying at St George's Chapel in Windsor in May 2018.

Since then, the pair have been working royals, quit the Firm, welcomed two children and now live in California.
