Dad beaten into a coma after asking thugs to turn music down

A man has been battered to the point of possible brain damage after asking his neighbours to turn their music down.

Frank Penkav's family could barely recognise him following the brutal bone-breaking attack on June 14.

Doctors have placed the 42-year-old from Hollywood, Florida in a medically induced coma at Memorial Regional Hospital for his condition to stabilise before operating on his injuries, NBC Miami reported.

Mr Penkav's sister – who could only recognise him by his tattoos – suspects he was beaten to a pulp by neighbours for asking them to lower the volume of their music, according to WPLG.

The victim's family fear his injuries will rob him of a healthy life as a loving and active father.

His mother, Joan added: "My son has a little boy. He is going to be 4 years old – he is beautiful and he may never know his dad.

"We don’t know what damage has been done mentally, let alone all of the physical issues he has. It’s very disheartening."

The NYPost reports that medics looking after Mr Penkav are keeping a close eye on his brain activity, as they try to assess the permanency of any brain damage sustained in the assault.

His sister, Gina Horvath has also spoken out to WPLG who she told Frank went into hospital with several broken bones but has since also contracted an infection, adding to his suffering.

Ms Hovarth said: "He continues to fight every day but he’s very, very sick.

"There is no reason for what they did to him. I understand that people get into altercations all the time and people’s emotions are high, especially over the last year, but there was nothing to warrant what they did to him."

Her brother was the least likely person to get involved in confrontation, let alone a fight, Gina said as she vowed to ensure his attackers are brought to justice.

Ms Hovarth added: "He went to work, did his job and paid his bills. He didn’t bother anybody. So for anybody to do what they have done to him, I am seeking justice and I will not stop until I have justice for my brother."

"She said someone called 911 but they don’t know who — and have had difficulty getting answers from cops."
