Dr Lorenzo Grazioli is an anaesthetist in an Italian hospital. Dr Grazioli told Sky News that countries around the world should “shut down to stop the outbreak” and avoid getting into the same situation that Italy faces. Yesterday Italy’s COVID-19 death toll overtook China, making it the highest in the world.
Dr Grazioli said: “What I would suggest is to just shut down to stop all the outbreak and not come into this situation that is very difficult to manage.
“I have never felt so stressed in my life.
“I am an intensivist, I am quite used to intense moments and choices.
“Where people will die without treatment and you make the difference.
“When you arrive at this point you realise that you are not enough.
“Maybe all 100 anaesthetists here are not enough.”
Earlier this week an Italian doctor gave a chilling insight on what it is like to work at a hospital during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
The doctor told Channel 4 News: “I go home for a few hours at night and I just collapse on the sofa.
“I’m sleeping but not sleeping because I wake up every hour with nightmares.
“My husband and daughter wait for me at home. They try to talk to me but I can’t even hear them.
“They ask me if I’m listening to them but I can’t.
