Coronavirus threatens Brits’ holidays as Turkey considers new quarantine rules

Brit holidaymakers could see their summer plans dashed after Turkey confirmed its first case of coronavirus.

It's the latest popular holiday destination to be infected with the virus after managing to avoid it for a long time.

One man has tested positive, with Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announcing the patient is currently in quarantine and his relatives are being monitored.

Local media reports the patient had recently travelled to Europe.

Other Turkish residents are being advised not to travel abroad and the government has implemented strict new measures for international visitors entering the country.

"All international passengers are being screened with a thermal camera," the UK government said of Turkey in its latest coronavirus advice.

"Those displaying signs of a temperature will then be referred to a medical adviser.

"You should comply with any additional screening measures put in place by the authorities."

Any visitors who have been to Italy in the last 14 days will be banned from entering the country.

Turkey is a popular holiday location with British tourists making more than 2.5 million visits each year.

France, Spain, and Greece – also popular places for Brits to holiday – have all confirmed cases of coronavirus although none have been hit as badly as Italy, which is in its second day of nationwide lockdown.
