A Commerce City man has been charged with child abuse resulting in death for the fatal shooting of his 3-year-old child.
Jose Manuel Rodriguez, 32, was advised Monday in an Adams County court of the charges and was held on a $20,000 bond, according to the Adams County District Attorney’s Office.
On July 16, police responded to 7811 Jasmine Drive on a report that a child had been shot, a news release said. The boy was found dead inside a bedroom.
The child was home alone with two older siblings. A loaded firearm was found at the scene.
Rodriguez has been charged with negligent child abuse resulting in death and possession of a weapon by a previous offender, both felonies. A date for a preliminary hearing will be set on Wednesday.
