The BBC weather presenter has forecasted more wet weather as May continues to bring persistent downpours to parts of the UK. Carol Kirkwood warned BBC viewers on Monday morning that the bands of rain set to sweep across England in the coming 24hours will be “heavy and thundery.” The wet weather comes as May reached almost three times the average amount of monthly rainfall in parts of the country. However, Ms Kirkwood did offer a ray of hope with temperatures looking to rocket towards the end of the week.

Ms Kirkwood told BBC Breakfast the rainfall on Monday will be “heavy and thundery through the day.”

The weatherwoman said: “So a lot going on with the weather, this rain continuing to rotate around that low pressure.

“Getting over the northern and western isles, southern Scotland largely dry through the morning, the same for Northern Ireland.

“Just a few showers in Northern England.”

She added the weather front would “sink a bit further south during the course of the day.”

The meteorologist continued: “The showers in Wales and the south-west currently will push eastwards through the day with further showers developing.

“And those are likely to be heavy and thundery downpours.

“Now in between, we are looking at some sunshine with temperatures up to around 15 degrees.”

BBC Weather: Europe forecast widespread thunderstorms

The weather presenter added: “Through this evening and overnight our showery rain continues to push off towards the far south-east of England.

“And the patchy rain sinks a bit further south across other parts of Scotland, England and Wales.

“And we will have a noticeable northeasterly breeze as well but no issues with frost it is not going to be particularly cold.

“Tomorrow then we will still have some patchy rain especially across parts of Scotland, eastern England down to towards Lincolnshire for example.”

Ms Kirkwood hinted that the UK’s weather will settle down towards the end of the week.

She said: “High pressure builds in, things settle down.

“It won’t be bone dry, we have a front in the west which will bring some rain to Northern Ireland later. There will still be some shower.”

However, the BBC host added: “But you spot a 20 on that chart, temperature is actually going up.”
