Baked Christmas tribute to Queen slammed for looking like King Charles in drag

A baked Christmas tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II has been slammed online for its likeness to King Charles.

An image of the pastry was shared yesterday (Monday, December 26) to the r/CasualUK Reddit page alongside the caption: "A Swedish friend made their yearly Christmas Saffron bun in the form of Elizabeth."

Saffron buns are a traditional Christmas treat in Sweden where they are known as saffransbullar.

They are closely associated with St Lucia's Day, celebrated on December 13, and are typically small and round – and not shaped like a monarch.

This royal saffron bun uses spikes of pastry to form the shape of a crown, bejewelled with raisins, and dots of icing to distinguish the Queen's hair and teeth.

However, the baking process appears to have blown some of her features out of proportion – and the people of Reddit did not hold back in their criticism.

One person asked: "The Queen played by David Walliams?"

"If Lizzy had a nut allergy," a second said.

"If Fungus The Bogeyman was the Queen," a third said.

While a fourth wrote "I wanna play a game!", suggesting the bun looks more like Jigsaw from the Saw horror movies.

Several people seemed to think the bun looks much more like Charles than his mother.

"Looks more like Charles in drag to me," one comment read.

Agreeing, a second person said: "YES the nose is distinctly Charles."

A third joked: "I was going to say. It took a saffron bun to finally see the family resemblance."
