This is one of retail’s best kept secrets – a designer known for their cult shapewear is doing a cut-price swimwear line. But you have to know where to find it.
Without putting too fine a point on it, buying a swimsuit can be an absolute sonofabitch of a job. It can take the sheen off your summer holiday before you’ve even started.
And this year, after many of us have been hunkering down in iso consuming our body weight in Whittaker’s Jelly Tip chocolate, it’s even less enticing.
That is why, having stumbled upon this absolute banger that ticks all the boxes and costs under $40, I feel it is my civic duty to tell every human being about it. I’m probably going to get an Order of Australia for this service.
For a long time, Kmart has had a wildly enthusiastic fan base. This was keenly apparent when lockdown lifted in Melbourne and people queued for hours to fall gratefully into their beloved Kmart stores as the clock struck midnight.

So with blousy big sister Kmart around, it can be easy to overlook that other discount department store, Big W. But that would be a huge mistake, because they have a line of swimwear that is true hidden gem.
The Body by Nancy Ganz label has been making quality shapewear for years now, and they have been quietly selling a line of swimwear through Big W.
This year they have released a one-piece that is the holy grail of swimwear. The Bahamas one-piece has a super flattering neckline. There’s panelling around the stomach to smooth out the aftermath of the Great Whittaker’s Jelly Tip Crusade of 2020 (TM). The colourway brings a little south of France into our lives when we can’t actually travel there. And it costs just $39.
It seems we’re not the only ones to cotton on to this banging one-piece. Plenty of locations around the country have already sold out of this particular style, and sizes are beginning to sell out online as well.
If that particular design is a bit too nautical for you, the label’s flattering rouched Acapulco style (that has been a best-seller in previous years) comes in a range of plain colours:

Along with the Nancy Ganz stuff, the other find at Big W in the swimwear department are the pieces by Mambo, which feature some cute Australiana designs. They will set you back a mere $30.

Another swimwear bargain that made headlines earlier this year is the $29 dupe of a $229 design.
Good lookin’ rashie style swimsuits for women came on the scene a couple of years ago, retailing for well over $200.
This year Kmart produced a $29 version … but you may have missed it, as it’s tucked away in the activewear section.

Since it landed it has garnered a bunch of five-star reviews.
“I bought a few of these so I’ll be able to wear this for years to come hopefully,” wrote one shopper.
“So comfy, flexible and sleek looking. I think these would sell out if they were stored with the swimwear instead of the active wear”.
