The Conde Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence looked for the best hotels in the UK. The best waterside hotel won the category for hotels by rivers, lakes and the seaside.

The Cary Arms & Spa was ranked the best waterside hotel in the UK in the prestigious hotel rankings.

Based in Devon, the hotel is situated next to beautiful Babbacombe beach where there are plenty of opportunities to windsurf, dive or snorkel.

Fishing fans will also love the hotel as there are chances of catching mackerel, black bream or bass in the sea waters.

The five star hotel has chic seaside guest rooms designed by Kathleen Fraser and luxury rooms have a private balcony or terrace.

Cary Arms & Spa also has family suites and rooms suitable for dogs with a dog bed and a bowl.

The hotel’s stunning spa has a hydrotherapy pool, aromatherapy light shower, steam room and gym.

With just 16 bedrooms, the hotel has a peaceful feel and has stunning views of the Jurassic coastline.

One recent visitor wrote on Tripadvisor: “Stayed here for a little weekend getaway and it was just so perfect, so lovely and charming and we loved it.

“It’s set right on the edge of the sea, with stunning views from every window. The whole place was just relaxing and made us feel very special.”

Another person added: “The Cary Arms is a delightful hotel. It is small enough to offer really personal service and the staff that we encountered were unfailingly helpful and friendly.

“We stayed in one of the beach huts, which are stunningly located, hovering as they do immediately above the waves.

“There are many lovely touches like a bottle of wine in our fridge on arrival, a decent coffee machine and high quality toiletries.”

Nearby Babbacombe beach is a pebble beach where dogs are allowed to roam all year round.

The unspoilt coastline has clear waters and it’s also the perfect spot for walkers to stroll along the Downs.

Babbacombe beach is also a renowned scuba diving spot, suitable for beginners and experienced divers.

Tourists can also explore the South West Coastal Path, the longest coastal path in the UK, from the beach.
