The Deputy Chief Medical Officer led a press conference on Wednesday to announce moves by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to alter the advice on the Oxford manufactured vaccine. Following an MHRA investigation into the AstraZeneca jab and potential links with rare blood clots,  those under 30 will now be offered an alternative to the Anglo-Swedish jab.

Addressing the press conference, Professor Van Tam asked Britons to keep being vaccinated following the “course correction.”

He stressed that those under-30s would receive their jab telling them:  “We’ll get your vaccine.”

Professor Van-Tam added: “The NHS is all over this.”
