Del Boy and Rodney’s iconic yellow three-wheeled Robin Reliant took pole position in a list of the greatest on-screen vehicles, beating classics including the high-flying car from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Herbie, the 1963 Volkswagen Beetle.
The survey, conducted by newly-launched car finance site Carmoola, had Doc-Brown’s time-travelling DeLorean from Back to the Future in third, leaving James Bond’s silver Aston DB5 from Goldfinger in fourth and David Hasselhoff’s Knight Rider car in fifth.
But it was the lads from Peckham who might be millionaires this time next year as the instantly recognisable Reliant Robin triumphed.
In fact, one of the yellow three-wheelers used in the much-loved Only Fools and Horses TV series sold for £38,000 at an auction in 2021.
Emblazoned with “Trotters Independent Trading” the run-down motor was a familiar sight on TV throughout the 80s and 90s.
However, there was no room for the iconic ‘Minder’ Ford Capri driven by the late Dennis Waterman, who passed away last weekend.
Aidan Rushby, CEO of Carmoola told express.co.uk exclusively: “Minder is one the TV greats. So many fans of the show dreamt of getting behind the wheel of Terry’s legendary Capri.
“It is a fitting tribute to Dennis Waterman that his trusty set of wheels has earned a place in the motoring hall of on-screen fame.
“With word that there could be a revival of Ford Capri it might not be long before the streets are once again heaving with what was, and still is, one of the coolest cars ever manufactured.”
Most of the cars listed on the survey have gone for a fortune at auction in recent years, with one DB5 selling for £5.2million and an example of the Ghostbusters car fetching £170,000 at an event in Las Vegas last year.
Mr Rushby added: “While many car enthusiasts would love to cruise around in the Batmobile, the reality is that it simply isn’t affordable or practical!”
“Even Del Boy’s Robin Reliant would come with a hefty price-tag.
“But with the legendary DeLorean making a comeback this year as an electric car, there’s a glimmer of hope for movie-loving drivers.
